I've seen their broken wing act often. Local State Wildlife area is named after them also.

Had a female Cardinal in the backyard yesterday, still red in color but more brown on body than the males.Helps camouflage them on the nest I suppose.Heathennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-48550567944757046922016-04-30T20:37:29.749-05:002016-04-30T20:37:29.749-05:00Thank you bayouwulf...Ken saw a Cardinal today...w...Thank you bayouwulf...Ken saw a Cardinal today...we think that is what it was...it was red anyway...and said it was the first time he had seen one in years and years...so yes...I think this should be something fun to do together!

We went back to that property today, and there was another nest further down the drive...and another momma bird sitting it, made us smile!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13661170441563596213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-47052380147613181622016-04-30T19:40:12.070-05:002016-04-30T19:40:12.070-05:00I have a Killdeer nest at the propane terminal I o...I have a Killdeer nest at the propane terminal I operate in CLinton, TN. It has a large amount of open gravel which they favor. Sometimes there has been as many as three separate nests, through the season. They incubate their nests 21-28 days so when the babies hatch, they're more formed that tree nesting birds, complete with feathers. After the feathers dry, they will be up and walking. It's like giving birth to a pre-teen. The parents will change their song to a repetitive style that encourages the hatchlings to stay close to mom and dad. You will be able to get closer to the nest with one of the parents sitting on the eggs if, you are in a vehicle (just don't get too close). They don't recognize a car or truck as a threat like a human or animal does. A few years back, I intervened when a black snake got within 4 feet of a nest. The adult Killdeer was raising a ruckus and that is what got my attention.

Good luck with you new hobby!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-81283616217492269822016-04-30T18:50:30.986-05:002016-04-30T18:50:30.986-05:00I do...Ken and I are talking about getting a boid ...I do...Ken and I are talking about getting a boid watching book...to be able to identify them!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13661170441563596213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-5306431167927513842016-04-30T16:47:02.385-05:002016-04-30T16:47:02.385-05:00Boids, 'ya just gotta love boids....even the o...Boids, 'ya just gotta love boids....even the ones that wake you up too early in the morning!Chickenmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02978826295959619815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-71076606803510913702016-04-30T14:53:09.855-05:002016-04-30T14:53:09.855-05:00Thank you BW...it was fun, especially when I blew ...Thank you BW...it was fun, especially when I blew them up on the comp....and could really see what was there...WAY COOL!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13661170441563596213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3141116944573920581.post-66133597409866748182016-04-30T11:05:35.216-05:002016-04-30T11:05:35.216-05:00Neat post and you happened to be in the right plac...Neat post and you happened to be in the right place at the right time.
