Barns

I have always wanted to take a drive, and take some pictures of  barns, not an all day drive kind of thing, well maybe one day..but today it was raining, drizzly and damp... but anyway... Ken and I took off and found these.

Then a little creek...or a big one...; )

 And a field....or a hundred....

And then there was this....

I have no other details...just photographs.  Most were taken while the truck was moving...but it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

Great photos, Lisa = thanks for sharing. Isn't amazing how many old barns are still standing? Oh, the stories they could tell!

Great post and pictures.
I had a great uncle Johnnie that had a farm in the area. It was between Bethpage and Westmoreland as I recall. Visited a couple of times in the mid 50's. He passed in 1983 and is buried at New Hope Cemetery in Westmoreland. Most of my mothers family were farmers in the area going back 150 years. Uncle Johnnie was the last active farmer in the family.

What town was the last picure of the two story brick building in?

I REALLY love the old building in the last photo. Greater variety of barns in your area than mine.

Thank you BW,,,there are quite a few barns, and some we missed along the way due to traffic....and we only took one road....Do you see why I love this area?

As for the building..yes, always been a favorite of mine, at one time years back, it was available to rent, and I looked at it as office space..but no plumbing...so it would have been difficult. Love the brickwork and trim though...such personality!

I have other old buildings...for another time.

We call those barns "honeymoon cottages" around here.

Jumping off the huge oak beam that went across our barn and into a pile of hay, then the challenge to walk across the beam on a dare. The third floor level was a playhouse and hideout from the boys. Several old barns were part of my childhood. Thank you for the lovely photos.

Also I noticed that the old snuff ads are missing. Most barns had a free paint job advertising something.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today...we did miss a few barns that had old signage ...but not painted, it was hung...traffic did not allow me to get those...another time I am sure.
