And Now.....

Obama’s Limo Breaks Down in Tel Aviv After Reported Gas SNAFU

Despite all its high-tech gadgetry, communications onboard, and defensive armored plating, the White House limo, known as “The Beast” failed to start this morning shortly before President Barack Obama landed in Tel Aviv.

With such a heavy payload – a full eight tons – it’s no wonder its fuel efficiency is only eight miles a gallon. But that point was made moot when the driver apparently filled it with the wrong fuel.
Israel’s Channel Two reported, “The Americans filled it up with diesel, rather than petrol,” suggesting a diplomatic incident was averted because it was the Americans’ fault, not Israel’s.
But Haaretz Correspondent Chemi Shalev reported it was actually the other way around, that the White House driver filled ‘er up with gasoline instead of diesel.

TheBlaze’s Liz Klimas wrote in January about some of the impressive specifications of “The Beast” including:
…a gas tank that won’t explode even upon a direct hit; it has night vision gear; and is so controlled an environment it can keep out a biochemical attack. There are even bottles containing blood matching that of the president’s type in the trunk.
Shortly Before He Landed, Obamas Limo Broke Down in Tel Aviv and Had to Be Replaced (Can You Guess Why?)
Israeli and Jordanian officials coordinated the swift transfer of a replacement limousine that was already in place at a storage facility in Jordan for Obama’s visit there, according to the Times of Israel.
That replacement was loaded onto a transport plane and flown to Israel.
The New York Times’ Mark Landler who filed the White House travel pool report wrote:
One of the presidential limousines had mechanical trouble and had to be replaced before President Obama’s arrival in Tel Aviv, according to the Secret Service.
“We experienced mechanical trouble with one of the cars,” said Edwin Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service. “We don’t know the cause.”
There have been media reports that the vehicle had been filled with diesel fuel rather than gasoline.
Donovan said the Secret Service “did not have a read on what the specific issue is at this point.”
POTUS was driven in a different vehicle, he said. “That’s why we bring different multiple vehicles,” Mr. Donovan said.
Landler added that the White House will release a statement later.
One Twitter user quipped: The sequester caused Israel to stop selling diesel fuel. (New White House job posting: Limousine driver / $175K per year).

Jokes aside, how much will this morning’s major logistical production cost? Wasted: flying in the original limo from DC, flying the replacement limo in from Jordan, and shortly flying out the broken down vehicle. Whatever the price, you can be sure it’s all courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.

Congressmen Demand DHS Explain 1.6 Billion Bullets Purchase

Congressman Leonard Lance (R-NJ) has come out and demanded that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano explain why the Department of Homeland Security has been engaging in huge amounts of purchases of ammunition over the past year. Rep. Lance has called on Congress to get involved in ascertaining DHS’ stockpiling of ammunition which is enough to wage a 20 year plus war, which has most certainly caused a shortage in the public market.

The Best 7 Minutes on Gun Control

Propagating Roses

Propagating roses by cuttings is easy. Some say the secret of success is the humble potato! Before planting rose cuttings, push the bottom end into a small potato, which keeps the cuttings moist as they develop roots. It sounds crazy, but apparently it works really well.

Soil Test

Perform your soil test by placing a sample into two separate cups or containers. Add vinegar to one. If it fizzes your soil is alkaline. If not, add some water to the second cup and stir. Add baking soda. If it fizzes you have acidic soil. If neither have a reaction your soil is somewhat pH balanced.

Sgt. Michael Burghardt! I Salute You!

Leading the fight is U S Marine Gunnery Sgt. Michael Burghardt, known as 'Iron Mike' or just 'Gunny'. He is on his third tour in Iraq. He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour.

Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US Marines. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. 'You can't react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision,' he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term 'the longest walk', stepping gingerly into a 5 foot deep and 8 foot wide crater.

The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7 inch knife to probe the ground. 'I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs,' he says. 'That's when I knew I was screwed.' Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant's feet 'A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded,' he recalls. 'As I was in the air I remember thinking, 'I don't believe they got me..' I was just ticked off they were able to do it. Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down.'

His fellow Marines cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there 'My dad's a Vietnam vet who's paralyzed from the waist down,' says Sgt Burghardt. 'I was lying there thinking I didn't want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down. Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, 'Good, I'm in business.' As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in. 'I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn't going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher.' He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. ‘I flipped them one’. It was like, 'OK, I lost that round but I'll be back next week.'

Copies of a photograph depicting his defiance, taken by Jeff Bundy for the Omaha World-Herald, adorn the walls of homes across America and that of Col John Gronski, the brigade commander in Ramadi, who has hailed the image as an exemplar of the warrior spirit.
Sgt Burghardt's injuries - burns and wounds to his legs and buttocks - kept him off duty for nearly a month and could have earned him a ticket home. But, like his father - who was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for being wounded in action in Vietnam - he stayed in Ramadi to engage in the battle against insurgents who are forever coming up with more ingenious ways of killing Americans.
