When I was little, my Granny was ahead of the times...she had one of those long console stereos..RCA...in the wood cabinets...but she had one of her sons..she had 10 children, 6 boys...anyway...she had one hook up additional speakers and run wires through the attic so the speakers could be mounted high on the walls, in the kitchen because that's where she spent the majority of her time...well as a young girl..she let me just rock out on that stereo...and she let me play anything I wanted...as long as I would occasionally throw on one of her records...so I could pick between Elvis, Wayne Newton, Charlie Pride and that was it basically...really it was not a hardship...cause she let me ROCK OUT! I loved my Granny!!!

Good Ole' Saturday Nights
I started this little blog up a few years ago, and played with it, then thought naw this isn't going to be for me. You know open mouth...insert foot. Then I thought well maybe if I limited it to certain topics, number of posts a day on those topics..but I am not that regimented of a person. I wanted it a place I could be free to be me. So I let it just sit, I listened to my music, and did other things.
So I decided to try again after two years...and decided music...that's what I wanna do, and other things as they come up and feel right. But mainly music, it has made my blood pump since I was a little girl, it holds markers of my life, can tell the story, I often think of a song as a response to something someone says before a grammatically correct sentence.
I also hoped that in doing this I would with luck have interaction with others out there in this big old world, and would be turned on to something new and interesting that they are listening to, or just something interesting,
My hopes have brought much laughter, many interesting factoids of musical history, interesting people of distinction, new music, much grinning, a few moments of frustration, and sincere regret. All of these "new" things I consider gifts, and I thank you. One of the best gifts is that I was told about a radio station, that on Saturday nights, plays a great program and I should check it out.....well, check it out I did. It is fantastic! I have been listening to it for about a month now...and have been posting songs from it, I have even purchased a few cd's after hearing the artist there and then checking them out on Spotify and Youtube. Now I want to share this little gem with you...You will feel as if you are sitting in the rocker on the front porch and your family and friends are all there, with their banjos, guitars, triangles, fiddles, mandolins...this is just beautiful music...I welcome you to check it out as I did, and I hope you find the same enjoyment in it,

To tell you something I know nothing about.
Next Thursday, this is Good Friday,
There will be a Mother’s Day meeting for fathers only;
Admission is free, so pay at the door,
Pull up a seat and sit on the floor.
We will discuss a story you’ve all heard before.
One bright morning, in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys, got up to fight,
They lived on the corner, in the middle of the block
On the second floor, of a vacant lot.
One had a fiddle, one had a drum,
And one had a pancake stuck to his bum,
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each another,
One was blind and the other couldn’t see
So they chose a dummy for a referee.
A blind man went to see fair play,
A dumb man went to shout “hooray!”
A paralyzed donkey passing by,
Kicked the blind man in the eye,
Knocked him through a nine inch wall,
Into a dry ditch and drowned them all,
A mute onlooker shrieked in fright.
And a lame man danced at the ghastly sight.
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came to arrest the two dead boys,

The Van Bramer Case
Ken and I have two additional members of our household, we call them "our" children, Charliegoddammit, and LegalLucy....if you read Kens blog, then you have seen the photos of them...I had never personally had a pet prior to CGD....and he and I bonded immediately...I love that big ole hunk of fur and love...and then along came Lucy...she is feisty and lovable although we can tell at some point she was abused, a true little lady tho, she runs the show, she da boss. I love them, and it would absolutely break me if something happened to them...but I know for me....2 is a limit.....I see them as little people and they need as much as a little one...love, care, attention...
I found this video, a few years old, and my first take was HOARDER...but as I watched, my heart and mind changed, and I see a man, with enough love, and ability to care for animals that otherwise would be left on the side of the road, or put down...how sad is that....so I went from my first thought to what an amazing spirit Mr. Van Bramer must have to be able to give each animal such personalized care and affection, and the work he puts in to get services and product needed to care for these poor creatures, what a heart is in that man. Is he crazy? Some might say so....I don't think so...near the end of the video, he tells a short story about a man meeting St. Peter at the Golden Gates...and I think that it is an awesome summarization of this story and his work.
If you have an hour, check this out....I am a girl, and it made me cry a couple of times...but it also opened my eyes about a few things...the last ten minutes or so of the video is a repeat of the beginning so it's not a full hour....but check it out if you can, or if you have heard about it....let me know what you think....I would sure be interested to know.

Just A Closer Walk With Thee
I needed to have church...needed to connect with my Higher Power...My Lord and Savior, I have been feeling that way for a while...that nudge. There have been a few issues going on that feel heavy to me, and honestly, I am human... and have made a few comments/posts here that after a few minutes, an hour later I have felt the shame of MY words...because while yes they came from my mouth in anger, they really came from a place of hurt, and that is what I was trying to accomplish by posting them, to strike back. Ultimately, I do not wish to hurt another, regardless of who, how or what was done to me...it is not who I am, nor who I want to be...so while I removed those comments and that particular post...it has not left me...I have felt burdened by it. Maybe, that is why I felt I needed this connection...so when some good old gospel was requested it was simply a confirmation to me that yes indeed, I needed me some Church. The Good Lord works in mysterious ways...while I can never live up to the Grace he provides for me, I am forever grateful for His Mercy. I would also like to take this time to offer my sincerest heartfelt apology to anyone who had the unfortunate experience of reading that particular post. Thanks for listening...Lisa

Fight Fire X 2
One of my favorite CCR tunes. Okay,some CCR trivia: They were named Golliwogs before they were CCR. There was a band in the Pittsburgh area back in the early/mid sixties called The Fantastic Dee Jays who were the precursor to my beloved Swamprats and they did a song called "Fight Fire". The original was by the Golliwogs. The high point for the Dee Jays was when they opened for the Rolling Stones when they played here in 1965.
And now an interesting thing about the Fantastic Dee Jays. At least I think it's interesting. Back in the '80s Coors used the instrumental from one of their songs as background in a commercial showing people skiing and fishing in the winter. I love it when ad agencies dig up obscure songs to use.

*** The purpose of this performance was to raise money for the benefit of mental illness, and suicide prevention, of which I fully support, so I can completely see the beauty in this video. I have known people with mental health issues as well as a couple of people who have taken their lives...and no matter how you look at it, there is a great sadness, and a grasping at love, that cannot be denied. Somehow, I feel there should be enough to go around.
It has also not gone unnoticed by me, that while this post started as something humorous, it has certainly taken a turn to the more serious...and that is a message in itself...oft times the funniest of people, the most gifted or talented, are the most stricken with depression...as in Robin Williams case, let us not only hear what they are saying....but look beyond into what they are not saying. I posted a poem a while back...."Please Hear What I'm Not Saying"...it's worth a second look.

Good, Good Lovin~~He's A Rebel
Here's a bit of music trivia for you about The Crystals. One of their biggest hits, "He's A Rebel", was actually recorded by The Blossoms and credited to The Crystals. Producer Phil Spector heard that Vikki Carr was getting ready to record it and wanted to have The Crystals release it first. Since they were on tour at the time he brought in The Blossoms, who did back up on some Crystals songs, and had them record it. It was then released as a Crystal's song. The song ended up going to #1, but The Blossoms never got credit and were only paid a session fee for the recording. The Crystals also weren't happy about this. Okay, here's a song that I really like by The Blossoms that not a lot of people have ever heard.
